Ivy is an architect and designer based in Oakland, California. Ivy founded her practice Design/Ivy Hume LLC in New York in 2021 and has completed projects in residential, life sciences, film production and office space design. Ivy’s practice blends civic and public awareness of the built environment with whimsy, a love for drawing, and technical detailing. Prior to founding D/IH, Ivy worked at Norman Foster’s New York office (F+P NY), where she specialized in facades and mechanical systems for the new JP Morgan Chase Headquarters tower and completed the Michigan Avenue Apple Store in Chicago. Prior to F+P, Ivy trained at Bjarke Ingles Group (BIG) New York, Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects, RAAD Studio New York, and Andra Matin Architect in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Ivy graduated with her Masters in Architecture from the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in 2015 and completed her Bachelor of Science in Architecture at the University of Virginia School of Architecture in 2008. Ivy’s passion for teaching comes from helping guide students through process to concept with an urban sensibility. Ivy is thrilled to be a new part of the Academy of Art’s Architecture Faculty.
